Coach Marcelo has had sports in his blood since he was 2 years old, when he started playing soccer. At 5 he added Kung Fu, and at 6, gymnastics — training all three at once for years. In Kung Fu he won 5 national championships and 2 international championships, all first place. In soccer, he was Tamaulipas' top scorer twice.
In middle and high school he competed in swimming, soccer, football, and track — state champion in butterfly (25m, 50m, 100m), district soccer champion all 4 years of high school, district football champion 2 years, and state champion in the 40m twice. In 2015 he took part in an NFL Combine pursuing a shot at the NFL.
He started coaching in 2012 with a group of 7-year-olds. In 2023, what began as a favor — volunteering to help a soccer team at Montessori School of San Antonio after the head coach resigned — turned into the start of something bigger: that team finished the season undefeated. He returned the following year with the same group, now split into two teams: one finished undefeated, the other reached the final without losing a single game all season. From there he went on to coach football and basketball at the same school.
That's when Coach Marcelo realized what he really wanted to do: help children develop, physically and mentally, so they can achieve their goals on and off the field. That's how Flight Sports Academy was born. Today he works hand in hand with Montessori School of San Antonio and Joy Holistic Education in developing their students.
